Currently, almost 50 percent of men over the age of 50 face the problem of hair loss. For this reason, hair transplantation is the most common cosmetic surgery performed by men. Of course, hair loss is not just a male issue. Many women have also hair loss problem. Hair loss can be seen after genetic inheritance, aging, traumatic injuries or as a result of various medical conditions.
What Methods Are Used For Hair Transplantation?
FUE method is known that doesn’t leave scar. FUT method is known that leaves scar on donor and it is an old method which is not common nowadays. Hair follicles are taken one by one and transplanted in recipient area in FUE method, while a single strip is removed from back of the scalp in FUT method. People who are candidates for hair transplant should have healthy hair on the back and sides of their heads to be used as a donor area. Other factors such as hair color, hardness, wavy and lushness, also affect the result.
How Long Does Hair Transplantation Take?
The intervention takes few hours depending on the amount of grafts need to be transplanted. If the recipient area is too large, couple sessions may be required to complete the treatment. Usually, the intervention is performed under local anesthesia or sedation.
How Long Does It Take To Return To Social Life After Surgery?
A special bandage is put around head after hair transplantation. The patient can be discharged after 1-2 hours. Possible pain can be controlled with painkillers even though it is rare. People return to their normal life the day after operation when primary care is done. First wash is done on 4th day.
Donor Area and Body Hair Transplant?
Hair follicles taken from donor area are transplanted in the recipient area. These hair follicles are called grafts. Backside of head and above ears is considered as primarily donor area. Sometimes there is insufficient density of healthy hair on donor area. In such cases, hair follicles are also removed from other areas such as beard or chest which is called Body Hair Transplant.
